Skills to Communicate Effectively

Happy Monday,

I'm currently taking an English course and was asked to write about skills I feel are required to communicate effectively.

I'm still new to the blogging world, but I do know there are important skills needed in order to communicate as a writer to the reader. Also, if I want to grow into a successful blogger, I need to apply certain skills to achieve what I'm trying to do.

One of those skills is to improve my intercultural sensitivity.  My blog is mainly about being a wife and a mom in the Lord.  Just because that is the primary focus doesn't mean it is exclusive to a mom or wife who is in the church. It can be for any mom or wife.  It can even be for a young woman who is soon to be married.  Also, it doesn't matter about religion.  I can't discriminate in any way just from a belief.  Although, I have a standard and believe a certain way in my wifely and motherly duties, I have to be very sensitive to the beliefs of others.  I welcome all opinions and suggestions from every woman.  I will not force anyone on my beliefs nor be forced to believe in what I choose not to.  This blog is to encourage and support not judge or cast down.

Another skill I know is important, is to make sure I write in a way where my readers can understand me.  There should never be a case to where I don't proofread my own content.  If readers can't understand what my point is or I have all these errors in grammar, I will turn people away.  My content won't be effective and what may have been helpful and needful, will be thrown out.  It is very important to write properly and in a way that any type of reader can understand.  I also have to make sure I don't try to sound too professional where something that is simple becomes hard. My blog is to be simple and that is how I must write.

The last skill I feel is important is to connect with other bloggers.  Since I am new to blogging, I need to make sure I connect myself with those who are successful in the blogging business.  I want to grow and expand, and the only way to do that is to get my name out there.  I need to learn the ins and outs of blogging and how to communicate to my readers.  I need to learn how to interact and relate to them.  It is important to stick close to those before me and follow all good advice on how to become a successful blogger.  Connection in the Internet world is a priority.

So, these are my thoughts on communication skills for my English class.  If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to comment.  I still have much to learn and I'm sure there will be a lot of trial and error, but it is well worth it.  I'm thankful for all I'm learning in this process and this class came right on time.  I'm excited to see what more I can gain from this class.  I'm sure I will be on here more and will update you on what all I learn.

Until next time,

Maribel (handmaiden mommy)
